video friday!

It's been a long time since I purchased a full album. Usually I grab a song or two and revisit artists that stick with me over time to see if another song now resonates with me. Last year sometime I found Birdy. I pulled a couple songs onto my playlists at the time, but last weekend I couldn't get enough of her fresh soulful voice and knew it was time for more. There's something about her that makes me feel calm, joyful, inspired and comforted at the same time. I hope you enjoy her sound as much as I do this Friday. Have a great weekend!

bundles of joy

Lovely image from Such Different Skies "Choosing Crystals: Trust Your Gut"

This week has been jam packed with inspiration! Somehow things just seem to be falling into place and I have clear visions about things I want to see, make or do. It is all very exciting. Are you feeling something similar in your life?

For the upcoming weekend, here are a few links that are inspiring me lately. Have a peek around and see if anything resonates with you.

Are there any articles, blog posts, books, crafts, or pictures that are inspiring you lately? Especially the ones that are popping up over and over? (Listen to the message from the Universe!) Jot a quick note or paste a link in the comments section to share. I would love to see them too!

simple joys

I am simply loving and coveting these beautiful items.

(1) these cozy white hand knit slippers to warm my toes
(2) this gorgeous strapped leather journal to jot down ideas
(3) a soft bear plushie for the "someday kids"
(4) and this pur norsk norwegian wood blanket to thaw my bones

Just a few simple joys for this Wednesday morning. I hope you are having a lovely week!

April 22, 2013

hey, monday...

Somewhere between the "to do" and the "must do" you will find your time to "just be" this week. To spend time with things that are calling you. Intriguing you. For new interests or those left far behind. Take a moment to be quiet and listen. These are the things that fill our spirits and enrich our authenticity during the in between. Give them time to lead you and follow without restraint.

This week I will take advantage of my in between moments. The fleeting breaks and evening hours. I will spend that time listening to my intuition and diving deeper into books and projects that I am dying to devour. You see, I've been having trouble with silence lately and the only thing I can think of to remedy that is to throw myself into those moments. To turn off the tv. Put down the smart phone. Plant myself at my workspace or cuddle up in my bed and find a way to savor the stillness. It is something that I rarely practice in my life and feel now that I desperately need. This week I will find time for that connection and just be.

video friday!

Here comes the weekend! Can you feel it?

I'm getting ready to head home from work and enjoy a nice bottle of wine and some reading/journaling/blog-dreaming in my pjs! There are lots of ideas brewing for joyful.life and I am looking forward to sitting with them for a little while and digging in a little deeper.

If you need some new music or a little eye candy for the weekend, here are some new songs from some of the same artists found on Fearless April 2013.

Have a joyful weekend!

video friday!

Today I am loving this video short by truce films about a young girl who finds herself in a situation only a miracle can get her out of. Through the kindness of a stranger that miracle happens just in time.

Remember, what goes around comes around. Do good deeds every day, no matter how small, and good things will come your way. (Money not required.Good-doers unite!

Have a great weekend!

spring cleaning at joyful.life!

Treasures from the used bookstore, my favorite clutch, and beautiful anniversary flowers from my guy.

In the spirit of rejuvenation I've been doing a little rearranging here at joyful.life. You may have noticed some stylistic changes around the blog (wider format, double sidebars, rotating links, and more!) and hopefully things will be a little more streamlined going forward.

A couple things of note:

1. If you have a blog or website of your own and you want to share the joy, grab a "button" from the left sidebar and link up my blog with yours! Drop your blog name in the comments and I will be sure to stop by and check out your digs. (p.s. I'll be honest...I almost had a complete meltdown (a joyful one) when I found out that a few lovely bloggers are sharing j.l on their blogroll. I hope you will visit KTandCoffee and Viva La Vida and say hello!)

2. After a long and winding battle I've decided to remove my "ad free blog" icon from the site. While I am a believer in thoughtful promotion of goods and services, and I don't have any near future plans to start selling ads on j.l, I wanted to open things up to grand future possibilities.  I can't deny it would be wonderful to make a living by doing something I love, but I'm just not there yet. This will also allow me to promote my shop and faves from etsy guilt free!

3. Speaking of advertising...I decided to start sharing some of my favorite products (books I'm reading, beauty products I love, etc.) in a rotating Amazon widget on the right sidebar. The purpose of this is to share with you some of my favorite things and tell you a little bit about why I love them. But, you must know there is pretty decent perk for me too. If you visit j.l and click through to buy something on Amazon, I will make a small amount from the sale (about 4 cents per $1 spent) and you pay nothing more than you would if you had visited Amazon's website directly. This is my first (and only for now) attempt at monetizing my blog.

4. And lastly, check out the new social media links, etsy page with links to products in my shop, rotating favorite quotes, and (coming soon!) links to post groups such as music, thrifting, recipes...and more! I'm really excited for all of these changes and I really hope you like what you see!

Let me know what you think in the comments section if there is something you would like to see more of, something that doesn't look quite right on your screen, or just to say "hi!". I would love to hear from you!

April 8, 2013

hey, "monday"...

And so begins the "rainy" season here in Seattle. We had some beautiful weather over Easter weekend to usher in the first few days of Spring, but the past few days have been a little bipolar. Just like the weather outside I've been feeling a little scattered (hence the late afternoon "monday" post...trust me, it's a long story). While creativity is flowing strong again (hooray!) I'm having trouble deciding where to put my attention first. I'm constantly making lists and pulling together inspirations, but I feel a little overwhelmed by all of the possibilities. So, this week I've decided to embrace the confusion.

This week I will choose to cultivate my creativity. To let the ideas bloom and grow and tend to them if they become too wild. I will water them madly, like the spring rain outside my window, and harvest them when they are ready to enjoy. It is time for rebirth, rejuvenation and growth. Remember to be sweet to your seedlings and allow some big ideas to bloom!

monthly music

beautifully moody trees background sampled from a photo by Stacy Marie Keck.

This month I'm going to try and remember what it means to be fearless. I've lost this ability through age and even more so since my foot injury last year. I still have physical limitations, for the moment, but I think it's time to get real with myself. No more giving excuses out of fear!

"Once you set aside the fear, then it's a cinch."

It's time to set aside my reservations about certain lifestyle changes and just take the first step...to get in shape and start running again...to commit to and design new items for my etsy shop...to eat healthier day to day...to be more social. Practice makes perfect on all of these things, so my attempts will only get better if I drop the fears and apply myself.

This month I hope you will ask yourself if fear is stopping you from achieving something great. Then ask yourself,

"What is one thing I can do/change/say
to help me to become fearless?"

Now, hit play and get on your way! We have nothing to fear but (useless and meaningless) fear itself.

I'm not sure why, but "Unicorn" came up twice in this month's playlist. To pay tribute to that, I decide to get a little fancy with the Fearless April cover art.
