a new year and a monthly playlist

December 31, 2011

Happy New Years Eve!

Today I am feeling really good. I've been spending the last few days prepping myself for the start of a new year. There are multiple transitions happening in my life right now - enough to potentially freak me out and send me to the psych ward - and while they are all good transitions, I felt I needed a moment to just be, think, and collect myself. The past few days were spent relaxing (an unbelievable amount), designing an ideal new routine (including blogging time, creative projects, and a workout schedule), and organizing my little apartment (well...half way anyway). After finishing school, starting a business, and finding new passions in 2011, I am launching myself into a new year full of completely new experiences. A new year full of an entirely new routine. In just a few short days I am starting a new job (so exciting!) and now that school is done I finally have time to spend on my business! It will truly be a new year for me and I can't wait to see what happens.

So...I have been making lists (in the Bamboo Paper iPad app), using the fantastic and fun Unstuck app for assistance, taking stock of what really matters to me and what I would like to let go (on the chopping block...procrastination & clutter), all in the interest of devising a plan for success in 2012.

Last but not least, I have been working on my final playlist of the year...Delightful December 2011. Just some of the songs that have been playing along with me the past few days. The cover art with all of the lovely broaches is a print called All That Glitters by LolasRoom. (And it's on sale!) To all the music lovers, en-joy!

Have a safe and Happy New Year and I will see you all in 2012. xoxo.

Pin it up

December 7, 2011

Hi All! I can hardly believe it! I only have one more class! Pending some online classwork - reading a book of short stories today, writing a paper by Friday, and taking a 15 question exam on the 19th - I am done with college!

Tonight is my last on-campus class, so I am spending the day studying for an exam and taking breaks by perusing Pinterest.

While thumbing through my pins I found that there are a few things that I have pinned more than once. While it could be that there is just so much to see on Pinterest...in my mind, this means I must really love that item. I must get so excited when I see an idea, craft, or style that I forget all about my former pin and pin it again.

Here are some of the items that I have pinned more than once...

Such a cute outfit!

Love this messy half-up do!

Cranberry fizz cocktails

I would pin this photo every day. That is how much I love this outfit.

Pressed breakfast burritos. Yum!
My man makes these on the weekends and I love them!

This image reminds me a lot of my apartment.

Dirty Pirate Popsicles. Because they are made of
rum and coke and I love the name!

Keep Calm and Write a Blog Print by Agadart

In between paper writing spurts today I spent a little time catching up on my bloglovin feed. I was about 1400 posts behind, most of which are from the last few days, but it all reminded me how much I appreciate the blogosphere and the people I meet there. Anytime I need a boost of creativity or want to discover new things, bloglovin and pinterest are my favorite places to go.

Today, I found some great new recipes, lots of gift guides, and a few very special stories about triumphs and even heartache. It's amazing how close I can feel to people I have never met and how supportive and proud I am of perfect strangers. I find myself rooting them on in good times and bad, but most of the time I find myself inspired by what they share with the world.

Today I am thankful for the millions of amazing and dedicated bloggers out there. Thank you for sharing your joys, passions, and struggles with me. I hope I bring even an ounce of that to those who check in to my little corner of the blogosphere.

Nourish the Soul Print by happymine

I had a great day today. With the day off of work I had time to have breakfast with my parents, mark a few personal to do items off my list, go shopping for Turkey Day, prep for my 2nd essay (only 2 more to go!), have a nice dinner, and still have time to relax.

Today I am thankful for personal time and home cooked meals. For months I have been craving meatloaf and mashed potatoes and tonight I was treated to both! There's something about sharing a home cooked meal with family that makes me feel cozy and loved. It was a fantastic treat. I can't wait to do it again tomorrow and on Thanksgiving! This is definitely going to be a nourishing week for my soul.

Give Thanks Be Joyful Print by Henandco

Hi All,

Hope you had a lovely weekend. I found myself sans laptop on Sunday, so here I am with 2 Thankful items to share today. For those of you who have just tuned in...I am posting one thing I am thankful for, beyond family, friends, health, happiness, etc...each day until Thanksgiving.

For Sunday:
I was definitely thankful for my thoughtful boyfriend and the grande soy salted caramel mocha he brought me. It was a great surprise when my sleepy head arrived at his house for football Sunday. On this day I was also thankful for the HeyTell App and his adorable message that he "haaaaaadddd aaaaaa surrrrrrrpriiiiise" for me.

For Monday:
Today I am thankful for vacation days and a relaxing schedule. While I have a lot of homework to do this week, and a crazy schedule today, I am happy to have a few days to relax with my family and enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday. With Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off this week - and a 4.0 on my first of four papers for my online English class - I am excited and ready to get down to business and crank out 2 more papers, as well as cook a heavenly meal on Thursday, and spend a few days with family and friends.

Hope you had a great weekend and you are finding your own little things to be thankful for this week.

See you tomorrow!

Today's item that I am thankful for...

For those of you who have a pinterest account...enough said...am I right? For those of you who haven't seen it yet...and have a passion for online browsing...I encourage you to check it out.

Here's why I'm so glad it exists. With all of the glitter and creativity that is swirling around on the web it's hard to keep track of the things I see and want to be able to find again...creative projects to try, beautiful photos, inspiring words, delicious recipes and fashion ideas. Pinterest makes it so easy to bookmark these images all in one place and share them with friends. Sometimes it is just amazing to come across new things in the vast sea that is the internet. I find so much inspiration on pinterest. Not to mention I get to see what my friends are interested in, from famous faces to tattoos, hairstyles to decorating ideas, or humorous pictures to recipes. Whatever I am looking to find or don't even know I want yet...I know pinterest has something for me.

Thanksgiving print by TheSalvagedSparrow

Turkey Day is almost here and I thought it would be a good exercise for me to list one thing I am thankful for each day until then.

Almost everyone, including me, has the normal - but still very important - gratitude for family, friends, health, happiness, safety, things that make us stronger, etc. I have been very thankful for those blessings in my life, especially lately, so I will assume them just a given in this exercise. I want to show my gratefulness for the fun stuff in my life, the little bits of spice, little things that might be overlooked, and simply the things that bring me joy during this week.

I am thankful for happy hour. It might sound silly, but after a week that feels twice as long as normal I really am thankful for this bit of time to relax with a friend. The sun is shining, I am super hungry for cheap eats, and I get to spend time at a new restaurant with a good friend. Who wouldn't be thankful for that?

October 14, 2011

Hi Lovely Friends,

I am sorry for the unannounced hiatus. I've been feeling a little introverted and uninspired lately. I think it's just a build up of so many things happening inside and outside of my control that has led to a block in my creativity.

It's been a whirlwind of a month...I'm back in school at night (last quarter! woo hoo!), my car was broken into a few weeks ago and they stole my new text book and a large amount of crafting supplies meant for my business, then work projects took off and it was go go go until it was over, and now I'm feeling burnt out and under the weather. Today, I took the day off from work and I am recharging. It's ME time.

Pretty soon I'll be out from under this little grey cloud. I'm hoping to make enough time in my schedule for some homework, weekly creative time, and most importantly feeling like I'm running my job and it's not running me.

I realize that these phases in our life come and go and that sometimes we just have to take a little break and find ourselves again. I'll be back to feeling like myself again soon.

Watch for the belated September playlist tomorrow and some additions to the etsy shop in a few weeks.

See you tomorrow!

So many birthdays!

Hi All! Happy Monday!

Burlap Bunting by sherisewsweet
AND! Happy birthday to me! Happy birthday to my step-mom, god-brother, friend from past job, friend from high school, and my Seattle friend! Oh...and a very happy birthday "Welcome to the World!" to my joyful.life designs etsy shop! (A special b-day present to myself.)

I can't believe it's finally here! I've talked about opening an etsy store for oh so long. I have just a few items posted for the grand opening of the handmade section in my shop, but I think they are all pretty lovely. A few more items will be posted during the week.  Here's a quick preview of my favorite pieces...

All in all, today is turning out to be a magical day.

Watch for more updates and some sneak previews of the other half of my etsy shop, per.used, which will launch in about a month. Can't wait!

Happy Monday!

Happy Friday Everyone!

I don't know about you, but I have a lot of creative projects going on and need a little help keeping the fire lit. This video will definitely help me do that!

See you Monday!

please pass the mustard

September 13, 2011

When I was a kid mustard (yes...the yellow stuff you put on hot dogs) was one of those icky things that I would turn up my nose at. If it had mustard...I didn't eat it. This same rule of thumb went for pickles, cooked spinach, beets, etc. (My mom probably has a list a mile long of things I wouldn't eat and my dad still stocks lucky charms in the cupboard because I lived on it as a kid.)

My how things have changed.

These days...a sandwich isn't complete and a hot dog is bare without a little bit of fancy mustard. Not the bright yellow kind. You know...the good stuff.

To honor how style and tastes change and evolve...here is a little etsy tribute to the color of MUSTARD.

Just a quick reminder that we are all unique and we should embrace what makes us different.

Have a great week!

video friday!

September 9, 2011

This morning I woke up to my alarm thinking it was Saturday. Not sure why. I went to bed with the understanding that I would have to get up for work today, but in my sleepy little mind the thought of staying in bed and doing weekend things must have sounded much better. It convinced itself it was Saturday.

So...after a quick check of the date...I got out of bed and did my morning routine while I daydreamed of creative projects and things I would love to incorporate into my life. One of the things that rose to the top is chalk art. Something much like the lovely art of Dana Tanamachi.

Have you heard of Dana? Have you seen her work?

If not - I highly recommend you check it out here and some of my faves below. I would love to have this on my walls at home...or better yet, in my dream shop...or as a headboard like the one shown in the video below.

happy "tuesday"

September 6, 2011

Hi All!

I hope you had a lovely extended weekend and you're ready for a brand new week. Today's happy monday post comes on a "tuesday" with a gentle reminder that autumn breezes are starting to trickle in and we should do our best to savor these last few days of summer. Get outside in the fresh air, walk a sandy beach, put your toes in the grass, look up to the blue sky and smile. En-joy the beauty of the end of summer and wish her well until next year.

Video Friday!

September 2, 2011

I'm in love, love, love with this song and this video from a local Seattle artist, Bryan John Appleby, shot in the beautiful Washington Park Arboretum near the busy 520 bridge.

I seriously can't get enough.

I've already added it to my September playlist and it's only September 2nd! That must be a record. Normally I download a bunch of new music and then pick my top 10 faves for the playlist. This one jumped directly to the list. It dates back to 2009, but to me it is new...and I think it has a fresh feel. Not to mention the video has a great chilly Autumn feel. (I'm amazed at how they choreographed the boats so smoothly!) It's absolutely perfect  for a September Video Friday!

Happy Birthday Banner by FrenchLoveLetters

This month is my birthday month!!! Hooray!

I know that summer is ending, and for sun lovers here in the NW that is a sad day, but I'm not complaining because September is one of those months that I love. There is something in the air for me in September. It is full of possibilities, changes, and new beginnings. A combination of summer breezes and fall crispness that sends my mind and heart in a tizzy. I wonder if this stems back to the excitement of school shopping, the feel of new school supplies, looking forward to a whole new year and feeling butterflies in my tummy? I wonder.

Hopefully this month will also hold the birthday of my Etsy shop! Just think...this time next year I could be celebrating the completion of my 1st year as a business owner and having an anniversary sale!!! Wowie!

Being the beginning of the month I was looking back on August and realized that I never really took any August Break photos. I took a few, but taking a photo every day, posting it on flickr, and reviewing the hundreds of other photos posted each day got to be a bit much for me. It is something we like to call "sorting through the muchness." With all the beautiful things online, that we have coming at us every day, it can sometimes take a toll on the hours just to keep up. I fall victim to this all the time. It's a fantastic distraction and a powerful source of inspiration, but can become a bit overwhelming. Read more about the "muchness" in this post by Simple Lovely.

So...I'm a little bummed that I didn't participate as much as planned, but along the way I think I realized that life had other plans for me and stressing myself out over something that was supposed to be fun just wasn't in the cards. I will say that August Break is a great challenge and offers an opportunity to practice photography, meet new friends, and take time to soak up the world around you...especially the little things. I would recommend it to anyone. But this year...this year I think it just wasn't for me and didn't fall into place. That said, I'm excited about other August accomplishments and can't wait to see what is to come.

Here's to taking a different path than planned. Cheers!

grand plans

August 30, 2011

I had grand plans for writing all of this week's posts over the weekend. Now it's Tuesday and I'm just sitting down to the computer for some "me" time and realized that I missed Monday's post! All of the weekend fun kept me far away from my computer and I must say it was a good thing. Time away left room for adventures, friends, relaxing and everything yummy and good without the distraction of all of my other grand plans.

There is so much left to do to prepare the Etsy shop and today I'm feeling a bit like this...

http://blessyoursweetheart.tumblr.com/ via Pinterest

Sounds fantastic and scary all at the same time, right?

Plans are under way and I'm breaking off bite size pieces every week. It's a lot of work and a lot of fun, but at the same time I feel like I'm ready to get going before I'm really ready to go. I know I will get there, but getting all of these ducks of mine in a row is proving more difficult than planned.

The weekend break is exactly what I needed to spark a bit of creativity and get things back in gear. Full speed ahead!
